Stop motion animation is a technique where an object appears to "move" on it's own. This is accomplished by physically manipulating the object in small increments, taking still images between each change. There are several ways stop motion can be accomplished and the two most common are:
- take still images with digital camera and import into movie making software to piece together and add sound
- use image capturing software on a computer with webcam or video camera to capture still images and import into moviemaking software to add sound
While stop motion animation relies on technology for capturing images and creating the animation, it is a very creative process that requires a lot of trial & error and patience.
